This article narrates in detail the everyday living conditions of Haitian women engaging in sex work and the dangers of transactional sex in 2021. It describes the increasing need for transactional sex that might create a public health crisis. In the past two decades, Haiti has had more success in the fight against HIV/AIDS than most developing nations. Quoique les femmes aient joué un rôle important dans les processus de migration et insertion dans la nouvelle société, ce rôle-là n'a pas été toujours reconnu ni étudié en profondeur. Cet article examine le cas de Haïtiennes: leur rôle dans le processus d'immigration, leur intégration au marché du travail ainsi que les changements dans les modèles domestiques et sociaux qui s'observent dans la communauté Haïtienne à New York.

Looking for Life introduces the viewer to two women, Anne-Rose and Rosemene, who each one has their own particular way of battling through life. The former makes lunches in a factory yard in Port-au-Prince and sells her meals to the factory workers; the latter is employed in the same factory as a production worker making pullovers and T-shirts. Every day she buys her midday meal on credit from Anne-Rose. Through the connection between these two women the film shows part of their daily work and the constant battle for survival that they lead together with other women in Haiti.

Cet article se propose d'aborder les situations vécues par les femmes haïtiennes employées domestiques à partir de recherches menées en Haïti et en Guyane. Mettre en parallèle les façons dont ces femmes se représentent à partir du travail qu'elles effectuent permet d'éclairer le rapport entre une condition sociale et le « travail identitaire » auquel elle se prête dans des contextes où les relations hiérarchiques reflètent des modes d'autorité et des rapports d'inégalité différents.

The oppressions of race gender and class intersect quite clearly in the lives of Haitian immigrant women. Coming from a society where color and class indicate privilege and access to resources, Haitian immigrant women who are black and poor find opportunities here. Social workers must learn to use empowerment models to overcome the effects of race, gender and class in services to this population.

Background:
Female sex workers (FSW) are socially and economically marginalized, and this vulnerability can be exacerbated when they hold the intersectional identity of also being an immigrant, such as in the case of Haitian FSWs in the Dominican Republic.
Objective:

In Haiti, madan sans have for centuries personalised economics through a sistem pratik that has institutionalised market operations by connecting buyers and sellers. This study - based on 77 interviews, mainly (73%) with madan saras from northern Haiti - exposes gender-based violence (GBV) towards Black women entrepreneurs, examining the views of the madan saras about their work and using the framework of Black feminist theory to contextualise their experience.

Natural disasters, such as hurricanes, often negatively affect the economic wellbeing of affected individuals. Under such conditions, women may engage in transactional sexual behaviors in order to compensate for lost income and provide for their households. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between hurricane impact and transactional sex and if this relationship was moderated, or mediated, through economic factors.
