Ce mémoire porte sur l'expérience de la grossesse survenue à l'adolescence chez les jeunes femmes vivant dans un camp d'hébergement en Haïti. Après le tremblement de terre du 12 janvier 2010 dans le pays, de nombreux cas de grossesse ont été enregistrés chez les adolescentes vivant dans les camps d'hébergement. Des études réalisées auprès de la population habitant ces camps parlent d'une augmentation du taux de fécondité chez les femmes haïtiennes de façon générale et des adolescentes en particulier.

My dissertation is the first project on the Haitian Platform for Advocacy for an Alternative Development- PAPDA, a nation-building coalition founded by activists from varying sectors to coordinate one comprehensive nationalist movement against what they are calling an Occupation. My work not only provides information on this under- theorized popular movement but also situates it within the broader literature on the postcolonial nation-state as well as Latin American and Caribbean social movements.

Cette étude analyse la pauvreté multidimensionnelle des femmes en Haïti et l'impact d`un système d'activités génératrices de revenu, KOFAVAC, sur les conditions de vie de celles-ci. L'analyse des résultats de l'enquête menée auprès des femmes révèle que la pauvreté touche à toutes les dimensions de leur vie.

The increase in humanitarian emergencies has left aid organizations searching for ways to better serve populations affected by disaster, and women have often been among those excluded. This study utilized a critical narrative methodology to explore the humanitarian aid response to the 2010 earthquake from the perspective of Haitian women, seeking to understand their experiences and stimulate change through raising awareness of their voices in scholarly literature.

Childhood sexual abuse (CSA) is one of the least studied HIV-related risk factors in Haiti although research in the United States and Europe has clearly established the link between childhood trauma and HIV risk behaviors. Understanding the role and impact of CSA on HIV-positive Haitian women is likely to strengthen future HIV prevention and treatment efforts aimed at this vulnerable group.

People living in rural Haiti lack access to basic health care services due to poverty. Rural poverty in Haiti particularly affects women’s health because Haiti has had the highest maternal mortality and infant mortality rates in the Americas, in addition to some of the worst health statistics in the Western Hemisphere. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to cultivate a greater understanding of the poverty factors that affect access to health care services specifically among poor women living in rural Haiti.

Strongly prized in the oral tradition, whatever the social level of a Haitian, he uses the proverbs either to argue or to justify a behavior. Being described as the expression of the wisdom of the Haitian people, proverbs are also tainted with stereotypes. They have the po- wer to determine the place of man and woman in a society. In spite of the efforts expended to fight against inequalities between man and woman in Haitian society, the situation fails to change.

This project is a critical examination of Haitian migration and displacement in North America that engages both a theoretical and literary analysis of exile and diaspora as consequences of migration and displacement. Grounded in literary criticism, this dissertation argues that Haitian writers in North America inscribe migration by troping exile and diaspora to speak of the predicament of displaced migratory subjects and their inevitable crossings of places, landscapes, borders, cultures, and nations.
